This article puts emphasis on the television medium in its development in the last 50 years and also adds the increasing influence of video games, internet, and other mediums. Basically, the impact of media on the development and the media status as an agent of socialization are presented in the four subsections of Part I. Part Two entails concerns for industry, the media environment as well as the future of technology on media. The third part explores the advocacy and policy issues.
Basically, “Handbook of Children and the Media,” is an essential source in my research project. It will help me in examining adolescents’ time spending and access exposure to interactive media, giving me the recommendations on what should be done to the next generation. On the other hand, it has changed the way I think about the effects of media on children by explaining the possible applications of interactive media as a tool for learning.

The article presents a summary of the knowledge and research on how the computer affects the growing children, whether it decreases or increases the differences between rich and poor, and whether it can be applied effectively to improve learning.  Evidence proposes that too much use of computers can put children at risk for harmful effects on their social, psychological and physical development, and subject them to unsuitable sexual, commercial and violent content.  To reduce such associated risks, the time for children to use computer should be regulated and minimized and their access to use different media equipment should be under strict supervision.  The article as well shows that we can offer children new ways of accessing information, such as creating projects, communicating with others and enrich their classroom learning. 

In general, this article is a useful and reliable source to obtain information on the interactions between computer and the children as well as the adolescents. It explores the role of interactive media on adolescents’ daily life. This article is also helpful to me especially in shaping my point of argument on the effect of interactive media technology on the children. At first, I only focus on some negative effects, but now, I come to realize that such interactions have some positive effects as well.
