With the development of the society and the increasing aging population, more and more old people are sent to nursing homes. There is a common phenomenon that people are becoming busier and busier, so they hardly have enough time to talk with their parents, not to mention taking good care of them. A lot of people believe that the facilities in nursing homes are more advanced, the nourishment will be properer, and the nurses who look after their parents are much better. Because of the nice conditions that nursing home offers, people begin to think that sending their aged parents to a more convenient, safer and better place must be a wise choice. However, those old parents may not be a hundred percent willing to go to a nursing home and spend the rest of their lives, on the contrary, they think that nursing homes are just like a nightmare and they prefer to be with their children at their real homes. In order to get to know more about this phenomenon, I went to a nursing home to feel what those old people have been feeling since they were sent to this nursing home.
It is never an easy thing for parents to bring us up are the ones, because they will always face with a lot of hardships when taking care of us. No matter how good reasons we give, our parents will certainly feel that they are abandoned by their beloved children. Actually, treating our parents with honor is more important than earning money, and filial piety is the most significant of all the virtues.
When I arrived at the nursing home around my apartment, I felt that the place was very brilliant, because the scenes were wonderful and the people there seemed to be very friendly and kind. After telling them that I was about to be a volunteer to talk with those old people, the guard allowed me to go into this house. On the contrary to what I have imagined, the people there were not very happy or talking with each other as they were intimate friends. I went to the nearest lady who suffered from apoplexy and helped her go upstairs. She told me to call her son, because she did not enjoy the life in this nursing home and she wanted to go back home to live with her son and daughter in law. I dialed the phone number of her son and passed the cellphone to her. After hearing the voice of her son, this old women could not control herself and burst into crying. She told her son that she did not want to be in the nursing home any more, and she wanted to see her son’s face and talk with him like they did before. In addition, she said that the people were nice, but no matter how good they were, they were not her son.
Furthermore, another old man standing in front of the gate drew my attention. I came to him and asked him why he looked extremely upset. To my surprise, he told me that he was waiting for his daughter who said that she would come to visit this old man from every now and then. Hence, the man always hold the hope that his daughter will come to see him today. He told his daughter that he was fine and happy there because he did not want to trouble her. America depends on the pleasure rules and delighted endings in its entertainments does not, in contrast, people in the United States of America tell their children that everything is nice, but the fact is that they are not happy (Lam,2013).
As a matter of fact, nursing homes are bad for those aged person because when people are getting old, they are also becoming more and more dependent on their children. Nothing could please parents more than seeing the smile from their respective children, and nobody could take better care of them than their kids.
Sometimes, aged people are more prone to suffer from a vast variety of diseases and therefore end up with death. These group of people are supposed to talk to their beloved children before dying. Actually, it is very lonely to die in the nursing home, because the dead people is covered with white sheet with no relatives around (Lam, 2013). They are hopeless, and they may struggle not to die before seeing their children for the last time. In addition, when the kids know that their parents have died and they are no longer able to do something for their parents as sons or daughters, they will certainly feel terrible and regret the fact that they have not know the real meaning of filial piety. There is a survey showing that one in three person that are sent to a nursing home is likely to die no more than one year, however, at most fifteen percent of who get hospice care (Brodwin, 2014). To wit, aged people are easy to die when they are sent to a nursing home than those who do not live there. In order to save our parents live and help them have a longevity, we are not supposed to sent them to nursing homes. Moreover, the cost in nursing homes is big, therefore, people will have to spend a huge expenditure in it. However, the money that people give is not adequate for paying all the workers, thus, the owners of nursing homes will have to recruit young care employees who hardly have any experience in taking care of people, some of whom do not even graduate from college (Laura, 2012). Meaning to say, the nurses or other workers in nursing homes are not as good as we are thinking. They may not able to take very good care of our parents, because they may not have get enough training. For example, if our parents get sick or feel unhappy, those inexperienced employees in those nursing homes are likely to be unable to help our parents. Because of the fact that the old can not control themselves when and where to pee, they are likely to pee anywhere, hence, if the workers can not figure out the time when the old want to pee, the smell of urine may be inevitable, and nobody likes this kind of smell (Laura, 2012). Nobody wants to see that his or her parents will have to live in such a place where employees are not experienced and the smell of urine is everywhere.
In conclusion, the aged are not willing to go to nursing homes to spend their rest lives. Sending our parents to nursing homes is definitely not a wise choice, and we should always remember that our parents sent to a nursing home are not as happy as we think. When we were young, our parents spared no effort to look after us no matter what happened. When we were sick, our parents would always be the first person who came to where we were and took us into a hospital. When we were unhappy, our parents were always tried to amuse us. When we faced with some difficulties, our parents would always help us figure them out. Then, when our parents get old, what we should do is to take good care of them as they did to us before. They are the ones to give birth to us and bring us up. When they are old, it will be our obligation to return grace of parental rearing to the those who love us so much that they are willing to do anything for us as long as we are happy. Additionally, sending our parents to nursing homes is absolutely a worst choice that we make. The employees in the nursing homes are inexperienced, the smell of urine is everywhere, as well as people who live in nursing homes will die within one year. Taking all these factors into consideration, people will know that the decision to sent their parents to a nursing home is a dreadful choice.
