In recent years, as the booming of the film industry, more and more people go to the cinema; but most of them just watch the films for fun. Actually, writers and the directors are all expressing some specific meanings to the audience through the creation of a certain film. Then, how the film could be appreciated becomes the theme of this article some suggestion on “how to read a film”. 
In the article, the author advises people to take notes and write down their impression of the film. Then, the author suggests that we can analyze a film from six perspectives: the meaning, basic elements, mise-en-scene, cinematography, montage and sound. Let’s take movie Alice in Wonderland as an example, many strange things happened during the adventure of Alice, such as the talking knob, the singing flowers and the changing size of her body; all these will not appear in the real world; thus the director and the writer wanted to express their imagined adventure in the movie. And if watchers want to fully understand the meaning, they can pay attention to find the themes, intent, metaphor and subtext of the film. Besides all the unbelievable things encountered by Alice in the adventure, there are some designed plots in the film that revealed the intent: the rushing rabbit with a clock on hand is running for something emergent, and then after he found that the watch was not accurate, he became angry; all these scenes are prepared to convey the final conclusion of Alice: everyone here is a crazy guy, thus Alice wanted to leave. Why people are so rushing for something and so crazy? Maybe that is because it is a distorted world， whether that is a real world or a fictitious world.

And moreover, the author offers us more details of how to analyze a film. However, as far as I’m concerned, it is very difficult for those amateur to adopt all the perspectives in watching film, maybe the most important thing is to take a critical view in watching the film and have their own understanding of the film after watching it.
