2017-05-17 来源: 51due教员组 类别: Paper范文

本篇澳洲paper代写讲了“N字”可能是一个俚语,也可能不是,这取决于具体的人,他/她的意图和所使用的内容。就我而言,如果它是一个俚语,应该禁止“N字”,如果不是一个,那么它可以被人类不断使用。 “N字”的具体内涵随着时间的推移而改变,人类对“N字”的态度也在变化。本篇澳洲paper代写由51due论文代写机构整理,供大家参考阅读。

Increasingly frequent do we human beings to hear and perhaps use slur words in our daily owns, nowadays it seems that the slur words have played an important role in human communication. However, the existence of different cultural contexts and the complexity and evolvement of the words themselves have made it quite hard for people to distinguish clearly about whether a specific term is life as powerful weapons and put-da slur word or not. And if a term is actually a slur word, then on what it is based, racist, sexist, homophobic, anti-immigration, belief or any others. So we can have a fair knowledge that human beings will accordingly be confused about whether they can use a specific term and to what aspects they should pay attention in order that they will not offend others unconsciously. That is to say, to be aware of the etymology and impact of the slur words can help human beings to better deal with the slur words usage so that they can use them appropriately and correctly. Therefore the following will be our elaboration on the etymology and impact of the specific slur word “N Word”, hoping that it can give some feasible suggestions to human beings as for how to suitably use it for different groups of people. As far as I am concerned, “N Word” should be banned if it is a slur word and if it is not one, then it can continuously be used by human beings.

According to Jabari Asim, the slur word “N Word” can be divided into five sections, which are namely “Birth of a Notion”, “The Progress of Prejudice”, “Dreams Deferred”, “Separate and Unequal” together with “Progress and Paradox” (Jabari Asim, 2007). To put it more specifically of “N Word” from the perspective of Jabari Asim, “N Word” came into being in 1619 when African captives stepped on the territory that belonged to the British North Americans for the first time and this kind of situation lasted until the end of 1799 when Thomas Jefferson successfully occupied the White House (Jabari Asim, 2007). While based on what has been published on the Washington Post, “N Word” originated from the Latin word for black (‘niger’) which contains its awful power from slavery and remains that power even a century after and now “N Word” has become a modern language (Dave Sheinin & Krissah Thompson. 2014). And it is added that there are two n-words, one that ends in “er” and one that ends in “a” with distinct meanings, the former one being hateful while the latter one more a term of endearment (Dave Sheinin & Krissah Thompson. 2014). Apart from those, there are also various movies, magazines, books etc. that focus on “N Word”. For example, the 2004 documentary “The N Word”, directed and written by Todd Larkins Williams, is right one of such movies that probe into the history and usage of “N Word” as well as its variations. Moreover, the 2005 memoir “The N Word” by Stephen Hagan is another instance for this.
Having obtained a basic idea about “N Word” itself, what will follow next is the fact that “N Word” is actually a combination of hate and a communal on one hand and love and affection on the other hand. That is to say, whether the “N Word” will be taken as a slur word or a term of endearment will be determined by who is saying it, why he/she says it and in what context it is said. Thus I would like to analyze “N Word” through two conditions, which are the one when it is a slur word and the other one as a term of endearment, through which I would like to put forward my idea that “N Word” should be banned if it is a slur word and if it is not one, then it can continuously be used by human beings.

First and foremost comes the condition when “N Word” is a slur word. “N Word” is actually a racial slur which can in one way or another indicate black inferiority together with white supremacy and it is mostly used to put down the black and divert their humanity by the white. The specific “N Word” used is “nigger”, “nigga”, “nigra” or “negro” and those black people have actually been subject to other separate incidents of racial taunts, besides the use of “N Word”. The damage that the insulting “N Word” has caused to those black people or other dark-skinned people is so severe and destructive that the great majority of people have argued that “N Word” implies a bloody history of humiliation of the black. Or maybe it can be put in another way that “N Word” is actually the manifestation of white people’s upper hand when compared with the black ones. “N Word” is the perfect embodiment of the power for centuries that whites have held over blacks and the calling from blacks to reduce the bullying toward them. Many blacks have actually been left with a psychological shadow for a really long period of time and they dare not fight for freedom and equality for themselves. What’s worse, some black people have even ingrained in their mind that they are born to be inferior to others and they should be despised by. So you can have a fair knowledge that the blacks’ submitting meekly to insults has really intensified the racial discrimination, which has in the meantime contributed to the appearance of the slur word “N Word”.

With the condition of being a slur word mentioned already, then it is the condition of its being seen as a term of endearment. The NPR news depicts a case of a white man who beat one black of three would-be robbers in his neighborhood Howard Beach and shouted “N Word”, through which it would like to deliver that “N Word” used in rap music by most young people is not derogatory and it has not the sense of depreciating anyone (Pesca Mike. 2006). It emphasizes that such kind of declamation may offend some people, but it really turns out to be that way when this white guy said the most offensive word in the English language. In fact, when the white guy says “N Word”, he means nothing about insulting others but just speaks it unconsciously. Also, as for hip hop dancers, they use “N Word” just as part of their speech and it has nothing to do with the discrimination issues at all. They simply see “N Word” the same as other speech without any connotation. In my opinion, “N Word” is frequently used among the black community. I have a lot of black friends. When I saw them meet each other, they called “hi, nigga” to express the friendship between each other. So I think when “N Word” is used between black people, the word can be seen as a term of endearment. Though “N Word” has appeared not to be a slur word as often as in the past, it is still a word that human beings should pay extra attention to so as not to offend others unconsciously.

Fortunately, more and more people have realized that it is a wise choice to ban the use of “N Word” so that many black people can be completely helped out and they can really live a happy life. If it can really turn out that way, then the whites and the blacks can form a harmonious relationship with each other so as to contribute to the peace of the whole society.  Here I do not mean that banning this word can end racism, what I mean is that banning this word can to a great extent help ease the rigid relationship between the black and the white. Taking New York for an instance, it has passed a symbolic resolution in February 28, 2007 that announces that no matter whether you are black or white, you are never allowed to use words beginning with the letter N as may have been endowed with the color of racial discrimination (Argent, Neil. 2014). It is really good news to say that the New York City has actually set a successful role model for the whole United States in that other municipal authorities in America have also carried similar resolutions later on. The reason why I am in approval of banning the slur word is that I was born to be a pacifist and I really hope the world can be as harmonious as possible.

However, negative voices still come out that the compulsory execution of such resolution is contradictory with Freedom of Speech as is placed with great value by the Americans. Also, some people do not agree on this resolution as they hold that the black can still use the “N Word” as long as it has been deprived of the insulting sense and has been given with a new meaning. For example, Jamie Foxx who has ever won the Oscar winner title expressed that he would continue to use “N Word” as he could see no inappropriateness when saying it in the black world (Rahman, Jacquelyn. 2012). Moreover, several publications will in the meantime do their own bit toward the banning project of “N Word” in order that it can finally die out of human beings’ daily life in whatever way. It can be found out that NewSouth Publishers in Alabama plans to release the revised edition of Adventures of Huckleberry Finn – minus the “N Word” - in February (Argent, Neil. 2014).

From the above, a natural conclusion can be drawn that “N Word” may be a slur and may not be one, which will be dependent on the specific user, his/her intension of saying and under what context it is used. As far as I am concerned, “N Word” should be banned if it is a slur word and if it is not one, then it can continuously be used by human beings. And the concrete connotation of “N Word” has changed with the passage of time, so does human beings’ attitude toward “N Word”. It is really an ideal state if the stance of “zero tolerance” toward racial slurs can really come out in the end and black people can actually be got rid of the detrimental influences from racial discrimination. It is undeniable that it will be quite hard to completely let go of the baggage the “N Word” brings and start looking at blacks as a different type of people but not an inferior group of people as the racial discrimination has lasted for really a long time and it has exerted impacts on people in various aspects in their life. Difficult as it is, banning the use of the slur words should still be conducted for the desired results in the due time. If blacks and whites can in fact make friends with each other, then it can really make contributions toward the peaceful and friendly relationship between whites and blacks.
