Outline Essay
Introduction:
“My Heart Will Go On” is one of my favorite songs. The song is from blockbuster movie Titanic as is released in 1997. Will Jennings wrote the lyrics and Celine Dion sung it beautifully (SongFact, 2013).
When I got the opportunity to write about my favorite song, there was no better choice than the song in the movie Titanic. The song holds distinct significance in the movie in that it is not only the theme song but also its instrumentals are also played all through the movie, which made movie scenes more sentimental and emotional. The following will be the analysis of the concrete diction in this song and in the meantime how the diction has helped deliver the theme of the song will further be explored.
Thesis Statement:
Will Jennings’s “My Heart Will Go On” utilizes personification, comparison and repetition to appeal to its audiences. Detailed speaking, it uses personification throughout the whole song, such as that love can go on within. Moreover, it uses comparison as well through the distance description and the going on of both “you” and “my heart”. And the repetition of the same diction such as “near, far, wherever you are”, “in my heart”, “my heart will go on and on” as well as others can be used to give the hearers a clearer idea of its meaning. It seems that the rhythm of the whole song is a combination of rising and falling and it generally conveys a romantic sense. Through all of the above, this song proves that love is the bonding element which never dies.

• This song has mentioned several conditions under which “I” will all the time hold hope and will never lose heart at all. The aforementioned conditions contain that even if it is in the dream that “I” can see and feel “you”, “I” can know “you” go on and that no matter spaces between them two are far or near, “I” will believe that the heart does go on, to mention just a few. Furthermore, positive words like “will”, “wherever”, “forever”, “a lifetime” and so on can in the meantime show the optimistic mind of the person. • The song lyrics are full of hope and determination. Each word of the song serves as a ray of hope for lovers. It gives message to people, that no matter how big is tragedy, we should not stop in our lives. The presence of song in the movie helps its audience not take negative impacts of movie. The lyrics’ being full of hope and determination makes human beings know that they should keep confident that they are able to solve whatever difficulties as long as they do not give up hope.
Sentence Topic 2: The Song Helps Human Beings Keep Going in Love Regardless of Whatever Difficulty
• The whole poem having read, it can be easily found that “my heart will go on and on” has been mentioned several times along the whole. And it also refers to that “love can touch us one time” and “love was when I loved you”, from which we can know that the main topic of the whole song is about love. Later by relating this to other parts of the song, we can say that it is delivered that once love comes into being, then it will never disappear, just as what is written within that “last for a lifetime”. Therefore this song makes human beings understand that they should all the time keep going in love regardless of whatever difficulty.
• The song continued that there exists no class difference between the two loved ones. Though the death can not succeed in establishing the class difference, the love feelings will continue in the beloved’s heart forever. The death of Jack did not cause the death of her love and her love will continue ever after. That is to say, love will never change even for a little with the death of anyone and love will all the time exist without changing in whatever way.
Sentence Topic 3: The Song Helps Alleviate the Negative Attitude of People Towards Death
• The reaction of people to the threat of death is always different. Some people accept death of their loved ones as their fate and some people do not surrender and fight for their survival.
• People have different reactions towards death. Some people felt alone if their loved one dies and considered their future as insecure and uncertain.
• The song “My Heart Will Go On” jolts the people’s perception about deaths. In this song, love is endowed with some features of a person that it can touch other people and the touch of it one time can bring lifelong love in approaching days. The song is full of hope and eternal love. It shows that death of loved ones does not mean the death of love. The love remains in heart and life goes on.
Conclusion:
Will Jennings’ song “My Heart Will Go On” uses personification and comparison, perfect use of word choice and the combination of falling and rising rhythm to prove that love is the bonding element which never dies. The song helps in eliminating the depression and instead motivating human beings to hold hope toward each and every life. Although various movie versions were released before 1997, the presence of “My Heart Will Go On”, made this film unique in the sense that it helps eradicate class segregation and conventional public perception regarding concept of death. The “hope”, “persistence to love” as well as “ brand-new awareness of death” are actually the most three important factors in a person’s life so that it can win human beings’ concord after its publication. The theme of eternal love is actually fully conveyed to the great majority of human beings through the skilled mastery of the diction in the song and the rhetorical methods successfully utilized through the detailed diction.
