Among them, two parts describe the migration of the African American and the other is a specific example to represent the new image of the Negro who has the courage to seek her interest. The African American first is the slave of the indigene. They earn their life by their cheap labor. To find more opportunities, some of them immigrate from the South, which represents the behindhand areas with the vast majority of population from the Negro, to the North. Many pictures show the process of the immigration vividly. From them, we feel how bitter for the African American to live in the times full of racial discrimination. The colonist is crude and the slave is dismal. But the African American show us how firm and persistent in the struggle with their fate. The article ‘Augusta Savage’ shows us a brave girl names Augusta Savage who is interested in sculpture. It tells us a story about Augusta Savage who break up the authority from her family and succeeds in realizing her dreams in the final. She not only represents herself, but also is the representative of the Negro. She shapes the new image of the new Negro who pursues new life with all his or her efforts.
Both the degenerate art and the Jacob Lawrence’s Migration Series are the portrayal of the history which reflects the bitter life of people under the racial discrimination. I think the history is a river full of blood and tears. We should see the history as a mirror to complete self-examination and serve the life nowadays with our respect to individual life.
