Sleep is an important process necessary for human survival. The quality of sleep is closely related to people's physical and mental health and quality of life. Sleep disorders directly affect physical and mental health. Sleep is divided into NREM sleep and REM sleep. REM sleep is categorized by the rapid eyeball movement, dreaming, increased autonomic nervous system activities, a brain wave that resembles the state of awake, etc. An interview of three male persons A, B, and C aged 22, 48, and 73 is conducted to find out their bedtime routine, sleep schedule and overall sleep patterns.

Comparing the interview results, it has been found that the sleeping hours is decreasing with age among the interviewees. Interviewee A has an average sleeping length of 7-8 hours per day, while interviewees B and C have only 6-7 and less than 6 hours of deep sleep daily. From the time of entering puberty into adulthood, sleep is subject to human restraint due to the constraints of school and workplace schedules. As a result, the total amount of sleep shows a tendency to decrease, and there was a distinct personal disparity. In terms of sleeping pattern, a much more regular sleep schedule is found in the older interviewees. In middle-aged and elderly interviewees, the quality of sleep deteriorates significantly with age. There is a phase deviation in the rhythm of sleep during sleep, a decrease in deep, slow-wave sleep. This leads to an increase in sleep disorders.

Early awakening is a common sleep problem for the elderly interviewee. The middle-aged interviewee finds himself awoken every morning at roughly the same time, which is determined by the lighting up of the room due to sunlight. The elderly interviewee wakes up upon slight sounds and finds it difficult to go back to sleep quickly. For the youngest interviewee, it is the contrary: waking up requires the help of multiple alarms. Many factors affect the sleep of the elderly. People with poor sleep habits and those with no bad habits show differences in the item of sleep quality assessment. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the health education, encourage regular sleep, participate in social activities, carry out sunbathing and outdoor activities, avoid excessive drinking and caffeinated drinks at night. Moderate amount of short-time sleep during the day is recommended. An environment conducive to sleep is also important. For example, natural light and darkness can be helpful for improving sleep quality and helping one to wake up feeling energetic.
