Class in laronde

ntroduce

As we all know, the class problem is often mentioned in the works of different writers, and different writers have different views on it. There is no doubt that as long as these authors can give supportive views and make them persuasive, their explanation of classroom problems will be meaningful. Arthur Schnitzler's play La Ronde, written in 1897, selects characters from all levels of society and depicts ten pairs of lovers, through which he successfully comments on how sexual contact transcends class boundaries. When people have sexual contact with each other, class boundaries can be completely ignored. People from all levels of society actually do the same thing in sexual relations, which will be explained through the participation of three couples in this play.

Class in laronde

In La Lund, sexual relations mostly occur among members of different social classes, and there are class differences between the ten couples. All ten characters in the play seem to be connected through sexual contact, which is entirely based on financial exchange, insecurity, power, reproduction and other similar aspects (CARLY Maga, 2017). In doing so, each of the ten scenes has sexual intimacy or tension between the two characters. In addition, compared with women, men come from a higher class, which indicates that there are some problems with hierarchical thinking in the play (alaina Wilson, 2017). Alternatively, it can be explained in another way that men seem to choose sexual objects lower than them morally or socially, and they have actually separated love from sex.

First and foremost, the couple focused on prostitutes and soldiers, which opened the play. Based on this, the identity gap between prostitutes and soldiers can be easily found. The soldier planned to go home, but he was stopped by a prostitute on his way home. The prostitute tried her best to let the soldiers go with her. Although she was afraid of the police, she persuaded the soldiers to go with her at no cost. In this case, it is obvious that the prostitute has gone beyond the stereotypes of her role, which can be easily found in her free services to soldiers. In addition, she went on to say that she did the same job every day, just like all conscientious employees. It's a pity that the prostitute didn't realize her problems in sexual relations.

The prostitute's expression "civilians must pay, of course. Men like you can get it from me for free" (Arthur Schnitzler, 2008) means that she is not ashamed of her status and is willing to have sex with many people. And she did have sex with a lot of people because she was talking about "the coffee shop in shivgas! I took a lot of men from there. Er." (Arthur Schnitzler, 2008). According to this, we can know that many people in cafes have had sexual relations with prostitutes, some of them from upper class society. Although these people may not be prostitutes from the lower class, they do not need to develop sexual relations.

Next, there is the scene of the living room maid Mary and Mr. Alfred. In this case, the living room maid is the one who must work and serve the gentleman. The young gentleman began to find excuses and talked with the waitress several times. Finally, he chose to go to the cafe. He was full of praise for the waitress's beauty. According to this, the gentleman wanted to have sex with the living room maid, regardless of their class differences. The status of the living room maid makes her a typical combination of femininity and slavery. However, when her sexual intercourse with the young man was interrupted by the doorbell, the young man said irritably that the doorbell might have rang long ago, and they didn't notice it at all. She just replied, "Oh, I've been keeping my ears open" (Arthur Schnitzler, 2008). This answer directly destroyed our impression of her loyal obedience. At the same time, after the young man left the room, she finally stole a cigar from the smoking table, which made our good impression of her disappear completely.

Next is a pair of lovers about husband Carl and the little girl. At first, the husband thought the little girl was a symbol of beauty and elegance. He really had a good impression of her. He was eager to have sex with her. He asked her many questions about her family members, her past lovers, how many people had kissed her, etc. But she thwarted his expectations because her husband was shocked by her secular life again and again. For example, the little girl can tell from his behavior that he is married. In addition, when he said he wanted to rely on her, but he couldn't keep looking at her, she simply replied, "Oh, I can take care of myself" (Arthur Schnitzler, 2008). Therefore, it is difficult for the husband to really understand what kind of person a girl like her should be. He just asked himself, "who knows what kind of person she is - the God of heaven!" (Arthur Schnitzler, 2008).

conclusion

To sum up, considering the situation of the above three couples, we can draw a reasonable conclusion: sexual contact does go beyond class boundaries. Whether you are a high society or a low society, your needs and desires for interpersonal and sexual relations are the same as everyone. It is undeniable that there are a series of other aspects that can help explain Lalonde's class problems, which are not mentioned above, which requires further efforts in the future.
