The video Vietnam in HD

在看了越南HD的视频后，我现在基本上都有一个越南战争的概述。这一事件对大多数人来说都是熟悉的，然而，只有少数人能说出这段历史的细节。越南HD提供了战争的真实，壮丽的场面，让我感到震惊。

After watching the video Vietnam in HD, I now basically have an overview of Vietnam War. This event is familiar to most of people, however, only a few of them can tell the details of that history. Vietnam in HD provides the true or vivid scene of the war and that makes me shocked.

What impressed me most is the Search and Destroy operation during 1966. “The plan is brutally simple. Search out the enemy of South Vietnam and destroy them. The number is so high they will no longer be able to continue fighting.”(00:44:05-00:44:14)This was the new strategy taken by the U.S. Army after its victory in Ia Drang Valley. However, this time it would not take territory occupation as the victory but focused more on casualty of the enemy. America intended to help the South Vietnam destroy the communists. At the beginning it was the military advisor of South Vietnam but later became one of the characters in the war.

As the war was extending, people in America also felt the stress. Barry Romo, a young man in San Bernardino, California decided to go to Vietnam to join the war despite of the discouragement of his father. He said he finally understood the words of Kennedy: “We should not ask what our country can do for us, but ask what we can do for our country.” “The more I hear about Vietnam, the more I think I finally understand those words mean.”(00:46:36-00:46:47) Romo had no idea what the Vietnam was really like and what he wanted to do was to save the poor farmers from communists. The war was very cruel. Romo served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army and in 1967, he led a Search and Destroy operation in Quang Nam Province. “It’s the not knowing that gets to you, the feeling that you are never safe anywhere at any time.” said Romo.(00:55:39-00:55:48) In this operation, all his thirty soldiers were injured and some of them were badly wounded. Two of them were dead and “one of my men had been thrown a hundred feet maybe by concussion and his insides were…”(00:57:05-00:57:15) After the battle, Romo was awarded Bronze Star but this can only made him grieved. “ In my mind, I could only picture Bronze star from my dead men and it didn’t seem worth it. It didn’t seem fair that people should die for me to get a medal.” (00:58:25-00:58:40) recalled sadly by Barry Romo. It seemed that he began to understand his father’s words that: “Your brother and I went to war to fight people who were putting other human beings in ovens. All you gonna do is to go fight some poor farmers that don’t wanna be bothered with you and I don’t want you to die.” (00:47:20-00:47:43)

As for Vietnam people, they seemed to show no enthusiasm to American army. The local people provided food for Vietcong and helped them hide their weapons. Maybe they really didn’t want to be bothered by others. In the video, an old man showed fears and tears confronting American soldiers. He squatted on the ground trembling and didn’t know what to do. He was a representative of Vietnamese. American army began to treat these villagers violently. However, Barry Romo said: “Your morality wears down; your patience wears down…” (01:14:38-01:14:44)) “We gotta figure things out every day as it happened… to give a choice between your buddies’ living and those villagers’ living.”(01:15:13-01:15:22)

Actually no matter for Vietnamese civilians or for Vietnamese soldiers, they took this war as a national defense war. Therefore, they united together and fought strongly. If they lost, they would lose their home. Therefore, the war which was thought to be ended soon by American army lasted for over ten years.
