An Application Letter

As for me, ASU is similar to a coordinate’s (0, 0, 0). Wherever I go and whatever I do, it seems like my home in USA. I'm not only familiar with here but also ardently love here. 
ASU is the place where my outlook on life forms. When first I came here, I just carried one suitcase. All that I felt was unacquainted and unknown because I had no friends or family members. At that time I thought I would be against with the language problem everyday. However, the fact is that I completely break everything in the past. Welcome to a brand-new world. There are plenty of magical doors waiting for me to be opened. Because of strong containment of ASU, the new world quickly opens arms towards me. I have new friends. The progress in language makes us communicate successfully. Then gradually I am integrated into the American culture. ASU is an environment full of inclusivity and gives me a lot of opportunities and challenges. 
ASU lets me truly know urban planning well. My mother is a famous urban planner in Wuhan Province and she is also an associate professor teaching urban planning and architecture in State University. And my father is a civil engineer. They run a company of planning and construction together. Those backgrounds are very important for me. Based on them, I could know some information about urban planning and architecture earlier than others. Meanwhile they provide economic foundation for me to study abroad and also give me the internship opportunity in China. 
Nonetheless, it’s just the start of my major study. During the four years at ASU, I have established basic concepts towards urban planning and dialectical thinking methods have also been strengthened such as the dialectics of walk-able city or vehicle-friendly city. I think being an urban planner should have more macroscopic and long-term view on the city development process, and pay attention to humanity’s future and daily life. “The Death and Life of Great American Cities” by Jane Jacobs is the book which makes me love urban planning. During the study time at ASU, only one book demonstrates different aspect of the city. Urban planning is not a sandcastle in the child hand. We should have responsibility for people in your city and find reasonable and sustainable ways to plan our city. 
Urban planners are not engineers or architects; they are more like artists and philosophers. On the macro basis, they should also own artists’ perspective and pay attention to many details which people ignore. Insignificant things can judgment the result. During the study time in ASU, I have attended a class of finding urban planning element from the film. I think this class has special meaning to promote micro insight which should be owned by urban planners. Just someone who love urban planning can have the feeling of the city in the film. As for the major, I am like a newly born infant who just opens eyes to see the fancy world. To be a urban planer, my life is just starting. What should I do is to keep loving and study hard. 
Every summer vacation, I would take internship in various project programs in China. But the most unforgettable one is the practice of a volunteer in US. It’s a simple work of just counting bicycles in road, but I think that through this volunteer I have formed a new acquaintance towards transportation. As the amateur people, we hold that Arizona's road traffic is just the plain fence format. However, during the process of counting bicycles, I realize that accurate setting of signal lights and pavements plays a critical role in people’s daily life. Distinct areas need different signal equipment, which would lead to great difference. 
Before arriving in ASU, I have had very abundant life experience. When I was young, I was an athlete of gymnastics and diving. Now, I choose yoga and swimming which have become my lifelong hobby and they build up my body. Besides, before entering ASU, I was admitted into China's top Drama University and majored in screenplay. So I am fond of writing. At the same time, I have technically studied singing. In my opinion, each life experience is full of meaning, which would make people become affluent people. Those experiences are our life’s treasure. They are with people and someday will be radiant. 
Just as what you have seen, this application letter only belongs to ASU. I deeply thanks for here giving me unmatched four years in my life. And I hope that I could go on studying here.
