My Thinking of The Film Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf

Recently, I have an opportunity to watch the film. Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf. Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? is a 1962 play by Edward Albee. In this film, there are two couples in the film. One is a middle-aged couple, Martha and George. Another is a younger couple, Nick and Honey.

The film is awesomely detailed,fantastically imagined and ingeniously. From this film, we can see that the whole story. That is to say, the professor had a problem with his wife. His wife set a trap to his husband. She invited a young couple to dinner and await an opportunity to flirt with the young man but failed, then she lost her temper hysterically. This behavior almost ruined the young couple. The play is in three acts, normally taking less than three hours to perform. There are two ten minutes’ intermissions in it. The play described the problems in the American society, family, and marriage. The play researched the moral standards and demarcation line by showing the hypocrisy and notorious conduct of learned person in the upper society.

When the time I walked in the lobby, I was drawn in to the content of the film. At the first of the play, Martha and George argued with each other, they all were desperate by a fake child. I can become infected by that kind of feeling. The process of watching the play from my seat is wonderful, I think the acting in the play is pretty great. We can see there are just two scenes, two couples, an evening in the play. They just presented each and every one story to us by dialogues. It looked so simple, but all of there factors made the play complete. It not only has rich content and lively scenario but also has integrated narration and vivid personality.

What’s more, the design of the play, the costumes and the lighting are appropriate in the play. All of these factors added to the integrity of the play.

My favorite element in the play is that the expression of the emotion in the play. For example, from the argument between Martha and George, I can deeply feel the sense of the desperate of losing the child. And I can also feel the George’s love towards the Martha by his silence. They all love each other but they can not express the love suitably. It was surprised that the middle-age couple selected to face the reality. When the husband said: “I have a news for you”, the wife burst in to tears. They know they must depend on each other, the time will fade the sadness. So at the end of the play, the wife said: “who's afraid of Virginia Woolf? It's me, George, it's me!”. I were impressed by the emotion in the play.At the same time, I like the music in the play.

I have did theater in high school, I have learned many things in this process. For example, I have learned to grasp the useful information in the play. At the same time, I have got much culture from different film.

The circumstance is the element which I like least about the theater because sometimes there may be noisy in the theater. I take this class to learn something useful to do theater well and how to be a good audience.

As for the live performance, I like the comedy most, because I can easily take in the atmosphere and magic of the play. The comedy makes people laugh and ease the pressure. I dislike horror play because it is so scary. Once I look an horror play, I maybe toss about all night and not go to sleep.

In this week's reading assignments, the article I enjoy the most is how to be a good audience member. The article is easy to understand. At the same time, I have learned many useful things. For example, I have got that I should pay attention to the play in the theater instead of sleeping or making idle talk. After reading that article, I try to be a good audience member in the theater. I find I could get more fun in this way.

I know there are many kinds of live theater, but I do not get the detail things about each kind of the live performance. After I read this article, I have learned many detail things about three kinds of  live performance-drama live performance, musical live performance and comedy live performance.

By watching this play. I not only learned many things about the content of the play, but also used the skills I have learned in the theater. I want to have more opportunities to do theater and get more things from the whole process.
