Extended maritime trade

During the fifteenth and sixteenth century, Europe ，especially Portugal and Spain, expanded its sea exploration, which was motivated by the pursuit of wealth brought from overseas trade and the Christian expansion, namely, by Gold and God. Except for its vast wealth produced from overseas, European’s various geographical conditions played important roles in its growth as global power.

Huge amounts of gold, pepper and mace drove seafarer to adventure. Columbia planed to reach the Far East by way of Atlantic, but only to reach what became known as America today. He brought minerals, gold, silver and tobacco to Spain, greatly booming its economy. He was also burdened with the belief of converting those pagans into Christians under the request of Spanish king, as they responded to the pope issuing the Christian expansion to spread the glory of God.

Besides, its geographical conditions helped segment Europe. Such segmentation was beneficial to commercial to business trade in terms of independent ports and businessmen. Besides, rivers such as the Danube also made it greatly convenient for the flow of goods.
