Roman slavery is referred to the system that slave owners possess slaves in the ancient Rome. Slave must work for the slave owners without paying and personal freedom. Slaves generally come from prisoners of war, the natives from the occupied area, debtors, criminals and other slaves trafficked into the market from Africa. From 2nd century BC into the era of the late republic, Rome expands into a hegemonic power of east to Asia Minor and west to the Atlantic, including many parts of the Mediterranean coast. The rapid expansion of territory, the establishment of the overseas provinces, huge reparations of war and money robbing as well as a large number of P.O.W. slaves flowing into Rome, the development of slavery economies are greatly enhanced.
Slaves in Rome have been widely used on farms, mines, mills and pasture lands. In a general Roman aristocratic family, there are usually hundreds of slaves and division of labor is very meticulous. Rome also put strong slaves into gladiator school to train them to be gladiators for fun of slave owners. Roman slaves live miserable lives. They are seen as a "talking tool” with shackles, working under the whips of supervisors. They do not have personal rights, marriage rights, property rights and a family. They are beaten and scolded, to sell or to be executed.51Due网站原创范文除特殊说明外一切图文著作权归51Due所有;未经51Due官方授权谢绝任何用途转载或刊发于媒体。如发生侵犯著作权现象,51Due保留一切法律追诉权。
