A brief analysis about the classic works’ style the author has read is given in the way by answering three questions which is related to the classic style. The first relevant book is called “Euclid, Elements” which is written by the ancient Greek mathematician Euclid in Alexandria c. 300 BC. Another book is written by Thucydides B.C.460 with the name of “Introduction to The Peloponnesian War” and is translated by Thomas Hobbes. The author wants to do some learning about the classic style by answering the flowing three questions.

Firstly, let us think of the question that why Hobbes say that Thucydides is a great historian. I think the main factor is that the writer Thucydides can use uses unadorned words to describe the truth of the war without any individual emotions for the matter. Moreover, he uses about a quarter of length of the book to introduce the war with the style of speeches, which takes advantage of Sophists philosophers’ speeches and rhetoric skills. The effect is to strengthen the appeal of works and represent the powerful language in the ancient Greek. Besides, let us talk about the relationship between the Peloponnesian War and the Athenian plague. The attitude is positive. As Hobbes says in 430 BC an outbreak of a plague hit Athens. The plague ravages the densely packed city, and in the long run, is a significant cause of its final defeat. So the war concerns the plague. Finally, the problem is to find what authority Euclid cites for his definitions. After reading the book, it is easy to find Euclid uses many brief symbols to represent the meanings of which he describes. These definitions are the ones that are proven under the support of some theories. They are the brief abstract of theory. So they are correct because they are correct in essence. While the form is simple and abstract.

From the analysis of the three questions with the help of the thoughts conveyed in the book “Clear and Simple as the Truth”, it is easy to find what the classic style of writing is.
