Introduction

This class is mainly related to the organizational behaviors. The study of the class is very important to daily behavior performance and future work performance. At any time, people need to deal with the relationship with different individuals and organizations. In this process, the behaviors performance of members will have a huge impact on the final results. Through participating in the class to have a deep understanding of the important concepts in the organization behavior, people can better regulate themselves and deal with the relationships among members. In this class, the group project is often developed to simulate a team or organizational behaviors.

In this class, some major topic areas are covered such as leadership, teams establishment, motivation and so on. In terms of the leadership, the concept of transformative leadership has been mentioned. Transformative leadership refers to a kind of leadership style that can inspire huge changes within organization, including the changes of organizational cultures, organizational members and other important aspects. Transformative leadership can be reflected in organization when leaders make each other to advance to a higher level of motivation through their personal characteristics and strong vision. Another important topic in the class is the teams. In class, the concept of collective mind is introduced to explain the performance of organization, which is conceptualized as pattern of heedful interrelations of actions. Last but not least, the motivation theory is covered in class. In this study, the important expectancy theory explained how individuals make decisions in terms of various behavioral alternatives. In this theory, the motivational force depends on the three factors, which are respectively expectancy probability, instrumentality probability and valence.

Reflection of the class

The most impressive concept for me in this class is the transformative leadership. Before learning the concept, I think the transformative leaderships are mainly related to the leaders’ personality, which will bring huge changes to organization such as the organization culture. Through the learning of the class, I have a deeper understanding of the concept. The transformative leaderships often bring positive changes for organization. I also understand what circumstances the organization needs the transformative leaderships. I found that when the organizational members’ core value perspective and organizational culture have not been adaptive to the organizational development, it needs to the transformative leaderships to change the organization. In addition, I also know how to develop an individual transformative leadership. In view of this, I can apply the concept to my personality cultivation. It is also applicable for me to use the knowledge of the transformative leadership to the simulation project. In the group project of simulation, I play a leader role in organization. The objective of the group project is to maximize the profits through simulating a realistic company. Through fully knowing the simulation’s company’s member background and operation characteristics, I can apply the concept of transformative leadership into the group project simulation and make decision whether it needs to have transformative changes or not. Another concept of collective mind impresses me significantly. Before participating in the class, I thought collective mind as a bad behavioral choice because it often arouses the contradiction among members and it also influences the efficiency of strategic decisions because different members may have thoughts and minds. The whole process of final decision may be very long, which will make the organization lose many chances in the market. However, the study of the concept of collective mind in class makes me deeply understand that the collective mind of team is necessary for ensuring the relatively accurate decision. For example, in this group project simulation, it is unavoidable for the team to make decisions in some issues such as product marketing or service fees allocation, the organizational structure setting, the choices of target markets, etc. Through this class, I have understood that the collective thinking can have a huge impact on the individual behavior. Although we are easily influenced by our parents or families whether positive or negative, the most powerful influence often comes from our friends when we are young (Hersey & Blanchard 2009, p.335). People will usually choose friends as the extension of a cognitive sense of identify in addition to the family. Therefore, the standards and expectations from friends and other social organizations will form a strong pressure on individuals. The collective thinking is just the strong force from the organizational members, which will have a hugely potential impact on the individual behaviors. Therefore, I will fully apply the concept of collective thinking in the simulation. For example, I will build a positive attitude to participate in the discussion of members for a decision. In addition, I will carefully implement the decision through the collective discussion because I believe that the collective thinking can be more convincing. The last but not least, I have learnt the concept of expectancy theory of motivation in class. Before this, I was much unacquainted with the concept. This class makes me understand that the expectancy theory can play an important role in influencing people’s work motivation, thus it can change the organizational behaviors. The expectancy theory shows the relationship between the needs and goals to motivate employees. I think this theory is very useful and practical to the simulation project. For example, in order to motivate the members of group project fully investing themselves into the project process and achieve the objective of organization, I will first know the real needs of members through participating in the project so as to encourage them better. In addition, I also will link their hard work with the performance. Finally, I will try to make them believe that their hard working is certain to bring good results and performances. 

Conclusion

In conclusion, the class makes me have a deeper understanding of the key concepts of organizational behaviors such as transformative leadership, collective thinking and expectancy theory of motivation. These concepts are very useful and practical to use them in the simulation project, which can help achieve the objective of simulation project and ensure the best performance. They are also helpful for my future work experience and performance and I will positively practice them in my future work.
