Introduction

Now, human society has entered the era of information technology in twenty-first Century. Internet has a close connection with the daily life of people. At present, human society is growing rapidly is going to step into the preliminary era of internet. As science technology develops very well now, the internet has entered every corner of human society at an amazing speed. Moreover, the development of the internet has effectively promoted the world's cultural diversity and social equality. And this paper is going to discuss about the relationships between the development of internet and culture and society.

In 1997, the first set of free e-mail system began to appear in the world. The popularity of e-mail and the rising of chat software makes the Internet world harmonious and connected（David Porter. 1997）. At the end of last century, the beginning of this century, the "electricity hot" once let people to doubt the commercial attribute in the "Internet age", because of the immature fall short of online payment platform. But as the technology and platform become mature, now all over the world, more and more people become users relying on of e-commerce, electronic banking. The popularity of the Internet has changed a lot in the field of business marketing model, bookstore, industry and garment industry and so on. The popularity of online bankers and online security companies has made great changes in the common financial security trading mode (H. T. Kung.1997).In the end, the internet will greatly effect the change of people's life in the continual future, too. Through the computer and the network, people can lead a life in new ways, such as more private and more secret. Because of the internet, people can communicate more conveniently. As a result, people become more familiar with each other and the society becomes more harmonious. Besides, it also provides many services for people, such as sending and receiving information, shopping online, finishing work and studying at home, and so on. In short, an efficient internet system will help human to solve more problems in daily life. Therefore, internet extremely has many positive effects on human society. Internet plays a powerful role in the present age and it will promote the civilization of human to a higher level in the future.

The Equality and Diversity

First, equality refers to the relationship between people and the people’s attitude towards others. It is one of the ultimate ideal of human beings. Because of the differences between people, the absolute equality does not exist, there is only the relative equality. The progress of modern society is the process of the equality between people and people, which is the process of achieving equality. The equality between man and man dose not mean the "equality" or the "average", but respecting and understanding each other in the spirit, and not treating unfairly(James E.Meade,2015),. Equality also refers to the denial of hereditary classes’ differences or arbitrary privileges. Second, in any environment, there will be a variety of things with diversity. In macro terms, it exists in the ecological, social and cultural environment; intuitively, biological species, commercial products, also have diversity; In microscopic term, the same species of genetic have diversity. The various levels of diversity will usually maintain a dynamic balance. And some of them will be eliminated, so there will be some new things which will replace them in the form of new. Diversity has been commonly found in ecological terms, such as: biodiversity, species diversity, ecosystem diversity, cultural diversity, genetic diversity and so on(Zhang jijiao. 2015). And this paper is focused on cultural diversity. Cultural diversity refers to the richness of traditional customs and cultures in a region or country. The blending of different cultures can make people opener to absorb more culture of food, arts, entertainment, science and technology. But some cultural differences may also conflict with each other.

The Connection between Internet and Western Societies

With the openness of the internet, the United States and other western countries can easily break through the national boundaries and geographical restrictions and expand their cultural influence (Geert Lovink, 2016). Western countries use internet resources to promote the spread of "internet television" and "internet pictures", which indicate some of their countries’ ideologies and cultures. These ideologies and cultures reflect the national image, life style and value orientation of these western countries. And these thoughts are affecting the political tendency, moral character, life value and cultural quality of internet users, and even the feeling and value judgment of the internet users. In a word, internet helps western countries to expand their culture and values, which can greatly strengthen their national power.

The Influences of Internet on Culture

As the internet grows, it also accelerates the speed of cultural transmission and increases the way people get culture. First, with the expanded scope of the application of internet, people can get more cultural resources and academic achievements(Geert Lovink, 2016). Cultural exchanges have become more convenient and efficient. Moreover, network communication not only promotes the share and exchange of culture, but also facilitates the process of globalization of cultural industry. Internet communication is not only an opportunity for the development of culture, but also a challenge to the diversity of native culture. Human beings should calmly face the cultural communication in the background of internet.

The Influences of Internet on Society

The internet also has an important influence on the society. First, the internet can strengthen the social productive forces at a faster pace (H. T. Kung，1997). With the help of internet in the process of production, a lot of laboring work can be guided by it, By doing this, people can save .much energy and labors in factories. This action can be thought as a revolutionary improve in human production. Second, in the age of internet, information has become a significant resource of the society. Then to utilize resources of information is becoming simpler and simpler. Thirdly, for individuals, by using internet, people's work and ways of laboring will also have many changes. Due to the internet, people can finish their work and study at home, which can save much time for them to do something else. The last but not the least, the network will open up the era of electronic management, which will bring new ways and methods to the management of the government department. Thee-government management model may be able to achieve in the future.

The Digital Divide and US Hegemony

However, the spread of the network also causes and reflects some of the inequality of the world, such as “the digital divide” and  " the US hegemony"(Frederic &Agnes&John，2009.).A program's adviser, Denise, points out that the digital divide refers to the gap of how much wealth a person are able to make. The “digital divide network" of the Department of Commerce in US sums up the digital divide as follows : "In every country, a lot of people have the chance to enjoy the advanced and rich information technology. There are the most advanced and fastest services of internet in those countries. However, on the contrary, there are also a number of people who do not own these chances for various reasons. The digital gap is the distinctions of between these two kinds of people (Frederic &Agnes&John，2009.).”It reflects the gap in the field of information technology. This gap not only appears in the field of internet, but also in the other areas in society, such as in industries, regions and nations. So it has become a social problem in the modernization age. Here are some data for this problem. In developed countries, within thousand  persons,300 of them have computers, while the developing countries only have 16 persons (Frederic & Agnes&John，2009.). The population of developed countries network users reaches to 80% of the world's. Internet further promotes the wealth gathering in technology owners, entrepreneurs and financiers. The network giants become fabulously rich. Those who have no edge or cannot grasp the network technology, become vulnerable to poverty or fall into the bottom of society. As a result, the rich become richer and the poor are poorer, which makes the social discontent rise and social instability factors increase. Therefore, the digital divide is an urgent issue to be solved.

The “US hegemony" will also have subtle influence on the equality. The so-called “US hegemony" is to implement the policy of hegemony by virtue of economic and military strength in the world (Tony Evans. 1996). Hegemony is the significant characteristic of American foreign policy after the Second World War. The United States is the only superpower in the world. The US has the most powerful military force in the world: its total number of active duty troops is 136.58 million and it has 203 military bases and installations in more than 30 countries around the world and 21 combat brigade departments in overseas. The United States believes that he is essentially a benign hegemony: he will not abuse his power like the evil hegemony in history. And he can provide the international community wit a public order of mutual benefit. So the United States actively play a role of a peace defender and the world police in the regions which have a return of interests. He believes that the best way to preserve peace is to use military power, such as the bombing of Yugoslavia, Afghanistan and Iraq. United Nations Secretary General Long nan said: the US’s unilateral and preemptive strategy poses a serious challenge to the United Nations’principles of maintaining peace and stability（Tony Evans. 1996）.

Conclusion

Though the internet will increase some inequalities because of the digital divide and US hegemony, it will greatly promote the diversity of culture, the development of social productive forces, the ways of human beings life and the development of the whole word. Therefore, it is obvious that the spread of the internet has more advantages than disadvantages and it is more conducive to promoting equality. In order to build a more wonderful future for our society, human should grasp this opportunity and take advantage of it effectively.
