To enter into a completely new atmosphere or situation, like going to college or being new recruited, makes one become the new identification of a freshman.Freshmen are usually regarded as a group of people falloff energy and new ideas, which would bring in new blood for the original group. Such element of positive ventures is an essential to any organization in the world, but it also inevitably confront with anti-force from superiors and higher-qualified fellows. In this situation they are usually referred to as green hands, who don’t know the code in the place, crude and impetuous, asocial, sometimes much too old-fashioned and sometimes too trendy and shinny. Therefore, every advantages of a freshman is turned into a lethal edge. But as time goes by and the freshman assimilates into the original group, the freshman prejudice is then gone. Freshman turned into an ordinary man and do the same to the next freshman. Many people have seem such affairs in all sorts of places and may have concluded it as an unspoken rule of the society. But why don’t we category it as a race which is suffering? The certain group of people is receiving the same kind of prejudice due to the same and unchangeable reason.

In the media publication, such sense is widely spread. The most impressive case that I have eve met is an advertisement in one of the most used online shopping apps—Taobao. In this case, Taobao was proposing for its “double 11” shopping festival, the most attractive shopping festival in China. The advertisement constructed a picture of an old-fashioned girl in some old clothes turned into a smart-wearing girl after shopping. The script on the picture was conducting meanings like:”Freshman of the semester? Don’t worry, Taobao helps you to dress like a junior.”(Taobao, (2016) Personally speaking, despite its commercial motives, I completely think this advertisement as a provocation to freshman in campus—even though it actually makes sense and there is logic among this: before going to university, kids in China do not decide what they wear. They are asked to wear school uniform in work days from primary school to high school. And most of the time in the weekend they are accompanied by their parents, so they still do not decide what to wear. Thus, as they go into university, everything is much different from what it used to be, they are no longer in the charge of their parents. They might be a little confusing in dressing, but it doesn’t mean every freshman had to be in that way.

However, when I do into the whys and wherefores of this phenomenon, I personally conclude the reasons onto the pursuit of efficiency. Freshmen are not as dump and crude as people think they are, instead, they are no worse than anyone. They tend to work harder in order to win collages’ trust. However, the only drawback of the group is that they lack experience and knowledge of the new field. This not only makes they look in congruous in a team, the lack of experience would also contribute to hesitation and confuses in work. And when people put all those elements together, they would just find the opposite of what they want—inefficiency. When people settle down to a job, they always need a period of time to get along with it, or in another word, to find patterns in this work. Before this pattern is found, people are not always familiar with the procedures and codes. As the commercial society develops and time matters more, people become less tolerant upon the progress. The worship for efficiency crowned freshmen with quaintness of disadvantages. Whatever, everyone would be a freshman, shouldn’t we have fewer complaints for this race?
