Recent years more and more media are using plenty numbers of frames which contain violence content to attract viewers. According to this the media violence increases a trend of crime which aroused the awareness of general public. Media violence is not just the simple cause of teenagers’ violent, it also the main reason of social violence. However, every coin have two sides, some video games or movies which include violence can help some children to develop survival skills and the ability to deal with violence. Even these knowledge may save their lives when they are facing with some emergency. So there is no doubt that media violence contains some benefits for us. This essay will argue that media violence leads to violent behavior and increase the community spread of violence.
When the children have watching the movies or playing violence games which contain violence, they may imitate heroes behavior. For example, “Crows Zero” a film from South Korea use a lot of film violence to describe two high school students in order to control the other party school students and beating each other. After watched this film, many students of South Korean imitated the violence in this movie that lead to many campus violence. Therefore numerous researches show that media violence could lead to the audience learns violence behavior. For example, a researcher named Craig Anderson did an experiment that, children who watched violent TV program are more aggressive than the children who never seen violent program, especially boys, such as pushing, striking, reproaching, these behavior are learned from the violence program by these children. (Wilson, 2008) There is no doubt that children themselves are not aggressive, these aggressive behaviors are imitated after violence programs be watched. In the research of Huesmann’s, after 500 children become adults, who have the behavior like abusive spouse and impulsive, are impact by watching violence programs for long time. (Wilson, 20
Media violence may promote the increase of long-term aggressive behavior. This means that, media violence is not just a one-off impact even it will have a long-term influence on the audience. A large number of evidences show that long-term watching TV violence may cause addict, and the violent behavior will reveal in subconscious. For example, a famous movie named YOUNG And DANGER which is about teenagers use violence to hurt others for the benefits, after long-term watch this kind of movie, many teenagers who already have violent behavior, in some troubles will want to use violence to solve the problem fallow the subconscious. In addition to violent television programs some violent games will also impact on children’s physical and mental health for a long time, such as Need For Speed, GTA, etc. Children indulge in these games may be affected in real life, such as driving fast, using violence to solve the problem, these behaviors can be learned from these games.
Although media violence can produce some negative effect, but in recent years, research has shown that some violent games or movies can help some children to develop some survival skills and the ability to deal with the violence. Some violent games not only have the violent behaviors but also have some worthy actions, for example in the event of an emergency treatment. In fact there is a valuable evidence that can prove this view. An 11 years old girl, who saves a whole family life from an accident, knows that the car will soon be exploded when it crashed and turned over. This knowledge can be learned from a violent game “GTA”. (Stallock, 2008)
In summary, although it is difficult to draw an absolute conclusion to this argument. Media violence may lead the public to produce the violence behaviors and may be long-term effects caused public by violence growth. But, we can not deny that some violent games will teach children some necessary survival skills and help the public to deal with emergency. In the future, media may be regulated by the government and maybe it will not use violence to attract the audiences.
