Decisive factor for the film

Exposition: The first several minutes is the exposition part. Pat got out of the mental hospital and tried to remake himself.
Inciting moment: the inciting moment is the night when Pat met Tiffany. Because the two characters start knowing each other, which makes the story progress.
Rising action: Tiffany offers to help Pat with the letter as long as he agrees to dance with her.
Climax: Pat and Tiffany go to the dancing competition and get a final score of 5.0. Nikki finally shows up. After the dance competition is over, Pat goes towards to Nikki. Because this moment all the things will have a result: Pat’s choice and his father’s bet.   
Falling action: Tiffany left out of anger and Pat came out for her.
Denouement: all family members and friends get together watch the football games. Pat and Tiffany are looking at each other happily.

      2. Analyze characters in the movie. Consider whether each is round, flat, and major, minor or marginal and provide reasoning to support your decisions.
Pat: I believe Pat is largely a round character. The primary reason is that he has undergone a lot changes over the course of the plot. Initially, he was a bit crazy, thinking about nothing but Nikki. Later, he becomes more positive and compassionate. He begins spending more time with his family. He is by no means a minor character.
Tiffany: I think she is a round character, for she is more life-like and complicated. At first, Tiffany is more likely to be thought of a slut, a superficial and crazy married woman. But gradually, she becomes more and more passionate. She changes a lot ever since she has met Pat. Also, she is definitely the major character. The role of Tiffany contributes a lot the development of the plot.

In Silver Linings Playbook, the plot duration is approximately a couple of days (ever since Pat got out of the mental hospital in Baltimore State). The story duration is far more than eight months (we can tell from the beginning that Pat has stayed in the mental hospital for 8 months), and the screen duration is more than 2 hours (122 minutes).

     4.analyze either Bradley Cooper’s or Jenifer Lawrence’s performance using at least two of categories listed on p310.
In my view, Bradley Cooper’s performance, to a large extent, is flawless, especially in terms of gestures and body language. In terms of gestures, it is quite clear from the very beginning when he got out from the mental hospital. Another noticeable fact is his use of the body language. He is quite apt in using body language to express his love to his beloved ones. When he meets his elder brother, he says little and gives him a big hug.
