Gattaca is a science fiction movie directed and written by Andrew Niccol, released at 1997 in America. In the film, a man named Vincent Freeman, who didn’t belong to the eugenics program, had to suffer from the pain of genetic discrimination. He had a dream which is traveling into space. This film is kind of horrible, showing a biopunk view of the coming society, where children are chose through manipulation of gene to make sure that they inherit the best part of their parents, if not, they are conceived as abnormal one, and suffer from the discrimination. 
I felt really sorry and upset after watching it. It is terrible, it is really terrible, but what makes it worse is that, it is astonishingly true in this age, in real life. It is a curse caused by the up to date technology. It is a curse that you can never escape from, because you enjoy the efficient and pleasant life brought by technology. It seems like this is human’s destiny no matter you like it or not, whatever you do, that day will come sooner or later, when your life is determined by the second you born, when you can do nothing but following your destiny, when you are just a toy of God, you are not yourself. It is an age that everyone is the same, it is an age that there is no passion, no innovation, and no creativity. You don’t have a free soul, you are just a slave of God, of destiny, and you don’t have the right to determine your destiny. 
Maybe human life is not mean to be perfect, sometimes less means more, defects may bring about beauty. Because you know everything in the life, in the world is extraordinary because of the difference, because of the incomplete. The incomplete is the source of creativity and the incomplete is the power that drives human world forward. Being perfect should just be an attitude of living but should never come true. Life is meaningful for the incomplete. We don’t need to be perfect, and this world don’t need to be perfect. There is no such thing like perfect in the nature, in the universe. Everything has its own weakness, and this is the truth of life, the reason why we exist.
So now, stop sighing, what we should think about is what technology is, where will technology lead us and how to treat the cutting age technology? Technology is not mean to be bad, it makes our life more comfortable. It is something that represent the superiority and great wisdom of human being. However, technology don’t have thoughts. They don’t have the ability to judge, to think. They just follow the existent rules. So this leads to two different effects. First, the rules make life easier, make life as simple as lines. Second, the rules make human being’ life heartless, make life as numb as equation. Therefore, it is something determined by us human beings how to treat the technology. We should never use that in an extreme way, there is a boundary, not too much, also not too little. Human is unique because we have feeling, because we do things not just follow the rules, we follow our heart. Sometimes, we may do something that is silly, that is obviously not right, but we still do that, because we are not robots, we have heart. If everything is computed and decided by equations, this world is terrible. Technology should be used in an appropriate way, it is just a tool used by human. It should always be kept in mind that we control the technology, not controlled by technology.
This is a good movie showing the extreme use of science and this is a good movie telling us that science and technology are not all about good things, it can be bad, really bad. Let technology help our life, but never let technology determine our life. We human beings should always be alarmed and aware of the danger that technology may bring about.
