Prayer is a powerful weapon, used by millions of people all around the world. Prayer seems to be the hope of every nation. When we talk about prayer, then we must acknowledge that there is a God to whom we render our prayers to. In everyday situations, those that are believers in the faith of Jesus Christ, often look up and ask for guidance, and help through their daily journey. It is also acknowledged that there are different faiths and different religions. Among those religions is some form of prayer to some God or another. The question is, “should prayer become a legal option in schools'” There are some people that will say yes, and there are some people that will say no. In our society we are dealing with people of different religious beliefs and standards. But when you add it all up, prayer is still the key.
Over the last past years there has been a great amount of controversy surrounding the issue of prayer in the public school system. This controversy lays not so much around students praying individually, but whether or not school official should be allowed to lead prayer. It is known that prayer and religion can have a great impact on students, but at the same time interfere with an individual’s first amendment rights. Lawmakers have gone to great length to inform school systems of the law surrounding school prayer in order to avoid any more conflict, and yes there have been conflict concerning school prayer. The conflict that might occur between people is the fact of different opinions in religion. Our schools are made up of different children, with different religious background, and as sad, as it is to say; there are some that do not believe in prayer, and become offended if prayer is offered in school to their children.
It is understood that many people feel that “Mandatory Prayer” violates a person’s first amendment rights, but some of us feel that there is nothing wrong with voluntary prayer. After September 11, all anyone wanted to do was pray. Personally I do not understand how prayer in schools could hurt. However, if a student does not want to participate in the prayer, it is their right not to. Prayer should be permitted and a legal option in schools. Every since prayer was taken out of school, there has been so much violent going on. Teachers and children lost their lives because someone felt like they had the right to take it. When prayer was in schools, we had a better school system, and children acted better, which led to a good school year. If I am permitted to speak; then I will say that since prayer has been taken out of schools, the enemy (devil) have ground to stand, which means that he can easily get to our children and cause them to drink, do drugs, disobedient to parents, kill, and destroy. Prayer is a shield, a covering for our children and us. Students have the same right to engage in individual or group prayer and religious discussion during the school day as they do to engage in other comparable activity.(Simpson, Kevin) Prayer should be a legal option in school instead of an illegal option. It should be lawful for prayer to remain in the schools.
What does prayer hurt' No one has anything to lose by allowing prayer in our school, but everything to gain. What cause students to kill their teacher, or other classmates' The simple answer for that would be the devil. He gets in our children minds and gets them to thinking that they have nothing to live for, and it is right to destroy and kill. As long as prayer was in the school, our children were protected, and the enemy (devil) could not attack our children or family. The 1962 Supreme Court decision that banished prayer from public school classroom is one of the most unpopular the court has handed down.( Brookhiser, Richard)
Why do we have to always fight what we as individuals do not, or cannot understand'
Christians want the right to pray openly in schools because they believe that prayer invites God’s participation in the school environment, and the education process because the “Lord give wisdom, and from his mouth comes wisdom and understanding” (Proverb 2:6). Christians want to invite God’s input in their studies and situations, in a sense; they want to give their every situation over to God, so that he can give them wisdom and understanding to what is true and good, or what is false or unwholesome.
The apostle Paul says in 2 Corinthians 10:4, “The weapons we fight are not the weapon of the world, on the contrary; they have divine power to demolish strongholds.” There are strongholds in our schools; walls that need to come down, so in my closing, I will say to the last of my strength, that prayer should be a legal option in every school, and every situation that may come in our lives.
