Online Auction James McManaway XBIS/219-Business Information Systems Stefanie Chan October 11, 2013 If someone wanted to sell an item on eBay, first of all they would have to register with a bank account or a prepaid card that can accept direct deposit. The next thing you would need to do is answer questions about your account and the items you wish to sell on eBay. If you were to sell an item like in a small-scale market, you probably will not get a lot of money for your item. This is because eBay reaches millions of people worldwide, where as a small scale market may only reach hundreds. One advantage that a small-scale seller would have over a large-scale seller knows their customers. Small-scale sellers have fewer customers so they would be able to become friendlier with their customers unlike a large-scale seller would. A disadvantage that a small-scale seller would have over a large-scale seller would be price negotiations. A small-scale seller would not be able to very flexible with their pricing due to a large-scale customer due to they will not have enough merchandise to make a large profit. If I were to have my own e-tail business, I would choose to use to sell my items through eBay. I chose this decision because eBay already has lots of customers and I wouldn’t have to spend any extra money on advertising my new business. Another reason I would use eBay to sell my items is because of eBay’s insurance policy on customers who will not pay for the items they wish to purchase.
