General Purpose: To inform
Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about the new developments in Nanotechnology.
Central Idea: Nanotechnology is the science of building and designing machines at the atomic level.
Pattern of Organization: Topical
A man walks out to get his morning newspaper when suddenly he clutches his heart and fall to the ground. The man’s wife takes notice that he hasn’t returned to the kitchen, looks out the window and sees him on the ground. She calls 911 and he is rushed to the hospital. The trauma nurse on duty assesses his condition with her Automatic Bio-function detector and provides the information to the doctor. The doctor is able to diagnose within minutes that the drink containing Nanobots that reconstruct the H/eart tissue and de-clot the artery and sent home within 3hrs of his arrival to the hospital. The above scenario, the miracle of the medical personnel were able to do is a great illustration of how Nanotechnology will (and shall) be used in the future. I became immersed in the Nanotechnology prior to the pursuit of my Nursing degree. Years of being of being exposed to science fiction greats like Star Wars, Star Trek and Battlestar Galactic motivated me to study the latest technological innovation with hopes that we too would go where no man has gone before.
Internal Preview:
Today I would like to inform you, my friends of the wonders that Nanotechnology will bring to our technologically advanced age. An era with better advanced constructions, better protection for police, improved designed for our aircraft and better equipped hospitals with more accurate hospital diagnostic equipment.
Body:
I. Nanotechnology is the science of building and designing machines at the atomic level (or molecular level) to make complete, high performance products.
A. First, a Nano is one billionth of a meter.
B. If you were able to shrink yourself down to a Nano meter, a common dime would be like a 100miles to you.
1. The average human hair is about 25,000 Nanometers.
2. Another good example of Nano technology would be how Human cells (i.e. skin, hair, white and red blood cells) replicate themselves frequently.

C. Nanotechnology would create products combining individual molecules into useful shapes.
1. A Nanobot (or mechanized molecular sized robot) would be fabricated from a desktop model or factory mechanism, given instructions on how to replicate itself-1000 & 1000 of times on a massive (similar to your human cells) level after which it will be given instructions on how to construct certain items (computers, LED chips, etc.)
Now my friends, I shared with you what Nanotechnology is and how it works, allow me to share with you four beneficial features that Nanotechnology will bring to our society.
II. First, lightweight materials stronger than our standard steel will be constructed using Nanotechnology in the areas of bridge construction and skyscrapers.
A. Construction materials will be lighten and made stronger with improved Nano fibers added to the composites.
1. Bridge cable supports (the circumference of a pencil) will be able withstand more weight that industrial strength cables normally would.
B. The aeronautical industry (one day) using shape-shifting wings instead of the mechanical flaps that are being utilizing now.
C. Military and police personnel will replace the heavier material used in their bullet-proof vests (Kevlar) with a light-weight material that will provide better protection and monitor their health status.
1) Note: Reference Robocop and Cyborg as good futuristic examples.
So far my friends would talked about what Nanotechnology is, briefly on how it will function, Lightweight materials that shall stronger than our standard steel will be constructed using Nanotechnology, aeronautical industry (one day) using shape-shifting wings and Military and police personnel will replace the heavier material used in their bullet-proof vests (Kevlar) with a light-weight material now let talk about how Nanotechnology will affect the Healthcare field.
D. Finally, the healthcare profession will have better diagnostic equipment available and better innovative drugs with which to save lives.
1. Lab-on-a chip will be waiting in the hospital to analyze a patient’s ailment in an instant.
2. Nanoshells approximately 100nm will float through the body attaching only to defective cells.
3. Finally, newborn children will have their DNA quickly mapped to delineate future health problems therefore eliminate health discrepancies before they happen.
Conclusion: So far what have taken from this today' We’ve learned that Nanotechnology is the science of building and designing machines at the atomic level (or molecular level), providing the aeronautical industry (one day) to use shape-shifting wings instead of the mechanical flaps that are being utilizing now, Military and police personnel will replace the heavier material used in their bullet-proof vests (Kevlar) with a light-weight material and ability to monitor their health status and finally The healthcare profession will have better diagnostic advantages available and better effective novel drugs with which to save lives and take our technology to where NO MAN HAS GONE BEFORE.
