Fundamentals of Research
BSHS/382
The waves of scientific research method are a legitimate goal to develop reasonable understanding concerning disparities of variable is similar study. The method provides the examiner with potential route, and opening to chase, or stir a research to result alternate option. This is reachable mostly in the course of the planning phase of the research outlining the focal point, and result upon completion of the study. The development of this paper will present effective clarification of how scientific research employ the general establishment of human services occupation, and explain the engagement of the fundamental steps in scientific inquiry, their importance as well as the method in which the step relate to human services. In addition, clarification concerning quantitative and qualitative research will be raised including how this mixed method is beneficial when conducting a research (UOPX, 2012).
The Scientific Method
Scientific method consists of five unique principles. They are autonomy, justice, fidelity, trust, and beneficence (Rosnow & Rosenthal, 2008). Scientific method in relation to human service research is an approach adopted for purpose of research and study; it is also used to examine the process of the observation, and to produce responses to question along the line of the research. Scientific method is also an exploration technique applied as a search engine pertaining to cause and effect association to the subject in question. This method also allow the examiner with opportunity to pursue different option during the planning stage searching for the core foundation, and outcome to general human behavior, thinking process, and reaction. This method also help examiner plan the research process so that the finding provide different adequate result satisfying the curiosity of a larger group.
The Method relation to Human Service Research
Scientific method applied to human services research in different aspect because of the process in which the inquiry process is develop, involvement in searching for reliable, and valuable answers, or creating a proposal, performance that reflect the topic in question (Karsai, & George, 2010). For example it allow the examiner with opportunity to pursue different option during the planning stage searching for the core foundation, and outcome to general human behavior, thinking process, and reaction. This method also help examiner to plan the research process so that the finding provide different adequate result, which can benefits different population group, or planning a research process that exemplify knowledge in service delivery. The Principles and course of action for the methodical search of information involve the acknowledgment effort, and pattern of used in accordance to a specific set of unanswered questions related to every day situation, lifestyle, and humane interaction (Karsai, & George, 2010).
Scientific Inquiry
Scientific inquiry is a systematic style to examine ideas, factors, and suggested justification for their observation. In another way scientific inquiry is the process researcher used to articulate a theory, and conduct experiment associate with the theory. This process also helps in developing credibility, critical thinking skills in the quest to finding answers. The steps involve in scientific inquiry involve making the observation, ask the question, formulate a hypothesis, test the hypothesis by planning an experiment, communicate, and making the conclusion (Rosnow & Rosenthal, 2008). It is also known as the process helping to develop understanding of scientific ideas, and gaining knowledge of how scientist investigates information and its application.
Importance of the Steps in Scientific Inquiry
The steps listed above are important during the research process helping the investigator reaching his or her goal. The steps safeguard the study against unforeseen mistake, or mystification in any specific research. Placing the steps into perspective are approaches that in return have the possibility to create new suggestion, or position group suggestion into a framework of example. The steps give meaning to the implication involve during the study, which exemplify new avenue enlighten the measures using the mixed method approach to research. Also the step is the fundamental pattern identify as the preliminary stage of the research endeavor supplying justification concerning the hypothesis (Rosnow & Rosenthal, 2008). Example supporting the steps of scientific inquiry is as follows:
Step 1: "How can disabled veteran received effective services in the community'
Step 2: Examine result from prior study with the same objective that provide clear ideas about disabled veteran past, and current human service intervention, or needs.
Step 3: Upon examining previous study the research team find congruent information informing that the community experience decrease number of agency that provide services to disabled veteran. The hypothesis is: because of insufficient agency supporting the need of disabled veterans, offering a grant system is significant offering existing agency an opportunity to develop services that capture the need of disabled veterans.
Step 4: Recruit about 100 disabled veterans from diverse ethnic background, record the steps in which the agency offer the services, follow up with a final assessment recording each participant intake of the pros.
Step 5, 6, and 7: Suppose 85 of the 100 participants were satisfied, and demonstrate how the services increase their function in the community, versus their status prior to engaging in the study. With 85% of the group actively report satisfaction living standing in the community because of the new offer services then it is safe in point to conclude that the reason the increase number of disabled veterans experiencing hardship is because of lack of community services concerning this group.
Quantitative and Qualitative Research in Human Services and the Scientific Method
In human services, and the scientific method quantitative, and qualitative research are combines increasing profound advantages (Creswell, 2008). The advantages increases the depth of inclusive findings, which happen by inspecting the process in which the presented information supply clarification for statistical data; the component of the research subject matter. In addition both methods facilitate a larger view to the research satisfaction or dissatisfaction upon completion of evaluation. Qualitative research mostly used to discover common understanding of individual to cultivate a hypothesis. Meaning that it examine the individual view point, and reasoning of how, and why to situation happen. In contrast, qualitative research takes on the explanation process giving reason to whether or not the applied theory affects the product for a particular party, or collection (Creswell, 2008).
Mixed Method Research
During a research process quantitative and qualitative is call mixed method research when bout method is used in one shot. The used of this mixture offer advantages with the gathering of data, assessing the finding, and apply the finding in multiple series of research. It is identify as a mixed method because of the wide range of information offer by both methods, which increase the façade of the key element of a systematic research study, and stabilize the function process of scientific inquiry in the study (Karsai, & George, 2010).
Scientifically Sound Research Supports the Function of a Human Services Manager
Because the practice of human service is evidence-based care, scientifically sound research support functions of human services manager in way that reveal effective approach that should apply to make certain that necessary changes support the function of the agency, employees, stakeholders, and the client receiving service under the control of the management team. Research takes its creation bringing core evidence of information to a related subject in question; the finding of information is what is used in management practice to support day-by-day critical decision concerning service delivery. With sound evidence provided by scientific reflect work as an exhibit confirming the why and how such change should either implied to the agency practice (HSRI, 2012).
Recap
The body of this paper presents a short scenario concerning the importance of humane service agency providing services in support to disabled veterans. Second different segment of scientific method approach was review in giving reliable connection in the profession of human services. The fundamental reason of providing an example in addition to the core explanation of the step, principles of this method is to show a visual connection of how appropriate it is to mixed method research when studying data. Collected information throughout this paper from reliable source is another proof giving importance to scientific research, and how result from previous mixed method research can be used in the development of a new study. This steps and principles of scientific method, and inquiry mentioned above give power to human service in the hunt to adequately plan a treatment process reflecting the client objective.
