Prejudice
INTRODUCTION
People tend to judge other people most of the time unconsciously. Although
this judgment is unfair, it is a reality which is constantly present in our
society. We tend to have certain impressions about people we see for the first
time and predict the way they are and their background.
Also, past events and previous experiences tend to condition the way we
prejudge individuals. We tend to generalize conceptions or ideas about
particular kinds of people, and use these ideas as defense mechanisms. Several
examples are quoted in this paper.
According to the labeling theory: The process through which a
definition is attached to an individual, makes perfectly sense to state
that prejudice exists in all societies.
Given the fact that society is related to interaction among members belonging
to different ethnical, religion groups and social classes, prejudice or
labeling is an innate principle. As long as different social classes exist,
especially in Paraguay, prejudice will endure.
BODY
It is very common to find prejudice anywhere, anytime.
Prejudice is not restricted to social classes or level of education. It goes
from the upper level down to the poverty strata. Professional and non
professional people tend to prejudge.
In our society, most of the time we prejudge without even realize it.
