The Unknown Epidemic Brandi Renee Laird is an average student and teenager. She lives in Anderson, Indiana and has attended Anderson High School for four years. She is very fond of comic books and one-day hopes she can be like Wonder-Woman. No matter how true Brandi's friends wish these statements could be, they are inaccurate. These statements are inaccurate because in the winter of 2000, Brandi took her own life. She had attended Anderson High School for two years and been a daughter, granddaughter, sister, and friend for sixteen years. Every year thousands of teens die in the United States, not by cancer, car crashes, and other diseases, but by their own hand. These teens make the choice that they want to die, and they take their own lives. Suicide, the term given to killing oneself, is the third leading cause of death among people between the ages of 15 and 25 ("Suicide" Grolier). Few people argue that taking ones life is justifiable. It is not condoned in most all religions and cultures.
