I feel pleased to have this chance to share my story with all of you. At this very time, I would like to talk about a person. She sets a good example for me in many aspects. It is her who makes what I am nowadays. That is my mother.

When I was young, both my parents were busy at work struggling for a better life in the city. After going to the primary school, my father spent most of his time going on business, this meant that mother needed to take the family responsibilities like caring for me and sending me to school. For my classmates, their parents often picked them up in turn or even together. In contrast, I rarely had the chance to meet my father, letting along asking him to pick me up. When I made complaints to my mother, she would always say “We are struggling for better!”

When I was eight or nine years old, I could not remember it clearly, there was a time when I needed to prepare for the English final exam. Most of the time, I would concentrate on my studies, however, I just found English boring and difficult to learn. Remembering words and expressions was hard for me, and the most important reason was that I did not want to make good preparations for the exam. To avoid failing the exam, I began to think about some tricky ways. That is the last weekend before the final exam. Seeing mother doing some housework that afternoon, I finally made up my mind to make some notes for the exam. To be honest, I felt nervous as I clearly knew it was wrong to do so. So, I did not dare to make the notes on my desk, but sat beside my bed, pretending to turn over my textbook unintentionally. However, this had attracted my mother’s attention conversely. After learning about the whole incident, my mother stopped her housework and helped with my study together. She first checked out the chapters I learned this term, then she asked my about the key words and expressions. Therefore, mother spent the whole afternoon helping me remembering English words and expressions. Every half an hour, she would give me some dictation practice, in different forms. In this way, I managed to remember most of the knowledge before dinner. Seeing my progress, mother said to me, “Dear, you see. You can manage it as long as you struggle for better! I want you to know, we can never give you everything, however, you can struggle for whatever you want. All is up to you.” The good thing was that I got the first place during that English exam. I was surprised at the result. Thanks to my mother, I could pass the exam in a proper way. And I realized my mother was right.

When calling back childhood memories, I find my mother is the one who encourages me to move on in my life. I know my mother had a difficult life during my growing up, during which she had to work and care about my daily life at the same time. Under this situation, she still made a good example for me. What I benefit most is my mother’s life attitude, struggling for better. This has influenced me significantly and impressively. It is inevitable for me to meet challenges even for today. But I know I can struggle for better for all my desired things.
